Project Philosophy
Mid-Century Courtyard Living
Project Snapshot
Thoughtfully designed yet humble in its presence, Pali is a mid-century modern home created for subtropical living in Brisbane. Rather than separating life into front, middle and backyard, the home wraps around a central courtyard, drawing its rooms together and allowing the architecture to be experienced from every angle.

The Client Brief
The owners wanted a home that felt timeless without relying on safe choices – generous, calm spaces for everyday life, wrapped in colour and character. Every selection had to feel personal and expressive: a home confident enough to be different, and comfortable enough to belong to its street.

Our Solution
Apricot Italian marble brings warmth to the kitchen, while aubergine tones, dusty pink grout, green onyx and mint tiles introduce colour with confidence. Each selection feels personal and expressive, balanced by calm, generous spaces designed for everyday life.
A half-moon pool faces back towards the home, strengthening the connection between indoors and out – the architecture experienced from every angle, exactly as the courtyard plan intended.
Behind the Build
Some of Pali’s most considered work is invisible at first glance: an acoustically treated music room lined in timber, integrated automation that supports comfort through the day, and a dedicated wine tap in the kitchen joinery – details that reflect the owners’ interests and the way they wanted to live.

Design Highlights

Kitchen
Apricot Italian marble, blonde timber joinery and an integrated bar – complete with wine tap.

Outdoor Living
A breeze-block outdoor room and alfresco kitchen beside the half-moon pool.

Main Suite
Timber-lined calm with a window seat, walk-in robe and arched-mirror ensuite.

Bathrooms
Green onyx and mint tiles – colour used with confidence in every wet area.

Powder Room
A jewel box moment – aubergine tiles with dusty pink grout and a sculptural Italian marble vanity.

Living Spaces
A curved library wall and sculpted skylight draw the living spaces together.
Our Team’s Favourite Feature
“The outdoor area is my favourite. Pool, courtyard, backyard – it all works together.”

Client Story
“This beautiful house is beyond anything we could have imagined. It’s the little moments we keep finding ourselves in – the sun coming up through our bedroom, across the void and out to the view. The sunrises are magic, so are the afternoon sunsets. The way the house makes us feel, the utter joy, all of the features, everything. It’s an absolute dream. Working with O’Shea was unforgettable for us, we tell everyone we know about our experience!”
